Educated:
Consumed into the wondrous world of graphic design through the university portal of the Waikato – in New Zealand.
I was rounded in skills of graphic design, coded with HTML, CSS, Action Script, and Visual Basic. Washed with video production and bombarded with an idea of thinking differently. Polished smooth from three years of wearing, I was handed a piece of 250gsm specialty stock paper with gold embossed emblems and the inscribed words of “Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design” dated 2008. Slightly bewildered with the $38,000 cost of the last three years of journey, I stumbled down new path. After three months of trudging I came across Fairfax Media.
Employed:
Fairfax Media, the gateway to the industry for me. I applied…and didn’t succeed.
Shaken with the idea that I was just another useless graduate with no experience, I trudged on.
With the “real world” overheads bearing down on me and a taste of only partial employment, which was irrelevant to my career, to satisfy The Man, I kept going. In the depths of December I received a phone call. “We would like another interview” chimed the Fairfax Production Manager in summery.
After successfully getting my foot in the door I found that originally they wouldn’t accommodate me on their day shift because of my time commitments to my practice of martial arts. Luckily I finished my black belt at that stage and they plonked me on their night shift. Not too bad as considering the earlier trudging. After two years of winning at my job I quit and left for Australia. The Gold Coast to be exact.
Experienced:
After settling, another part time job… and The Man, I walked into another job. Sharples Enterprises. Five years I have been here and along the way I have evolved. My path has now grown into a highway, where it has rocketed me to a position as a Studio Manager at Sharples Enterprises….wooo!
